The latest entry into the crowded Gowanus hotel field will be a Super 8 on the corner of President Street and 3rd Avenue. The building’s looked fairly complete for awhile now, and according to a rep from Wyndham Hotel Group (Super 8 is a Wyndham brand), it’s “tentatively” scheduled to open on June 29th. No word yet on room rates. GMAP

  1. Not everyone has the bucks to stay in a fancy NYC hotel. Even the Brooklyn Marriott is pretty high-priced. For a lot of people, like small businesspeople in for interviews/meetings/short-time work or people or average means visiting family, or kids in college, these sorts of hotels are a viable option. The NYC hotel market in general is very much underserved compare with other large cities, and if you think about it a “Super 8” should be quite appropriate in Gowanus. Makes sense from several angles, which is why you’re seeing more of these.

  2. i think the one who will laugh last is the chain.

200,000 people in walking distance, broadway in 25-30 minutes and all anyone here can do is dredge up gowanus circa 1987 references.

anyone who yaps about an SRO hasnt been paying attention.

  3. Getting ‘rack’ rates are meaningless quotes. Hotels/motels are like airline seats. Call 1 minute and get 1 price -call ten minutes later get another. All based on quickly changing supply/demand.
Who will stay there? anyone who is ‘price sensitive’…that is if going to save $25 a night they’ll go for it, whether tourist or small businessperson. Subway access 1 avenue east and walkable to interesting neighborhoods.
