Today YIMBY‘s got photos of excavation work happening at 42-12 28th Street, one of the major LIC developments located right near Queens Plaza. Unbeknownst to us, this development will rise higher than any other towers in LIC, or even Brooklyn. According to YIMBY: “While permits indicate 42-12 28th Street will eventually stand 58 stories and 596 feet, they do not account for the bulkhead levels atop the building; the zoning diagrams reveal that 42-12 28th Street will actually rise 646 feet and 8 inches to its pinnacle, making it significantly taller than any existing residential high-rises in Long Island City.” To put it into context, 646 feet is only twelve feet shorter than One Court Square!

The development, which will hold 477 units, ground-floor retail, storage, bike storage, parking, a third-floor pool, gym and roof terraces, is designed by Goldstein, Hill and West Architects and developed by Heatherwood Communities. The DOB partially approved permits for work here on March 4th, and although construction is officially underway there is no set construction timeline yet.
