On 7th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues, preparations are under way for a new five-story, four-unit residential building. Given that the building will have a total of abou 10,000 square feet, these will be some much-needed family-sized apartments. Given the location and the precedent set by the adjacent Florentine condos (which are sold out, believe it or not), we don’t have much faith that it’ll be much to look it. We hope we’re proven wrong. Ours started out as 4 family condo developments as well…till the developer learned he could make more $$ with smaller (not necessarily cheaper) units.

We’ll see if this stays 4 family.

And Eryximachus, not to spar, but something that North in the Slope, even though it’s btwn 3rd/4th, it will not be affordable…well perhaps by Park Slope standards.

I am beginning to further doubt what you consider “affordable housing” these days in this market…

  2. Glad to see Brownstoner actually discussing a development project in a positive light. This is the first time I have seen a post that suggests a development such as this will actually help make housing affordable for every New Yorker.

  3. Mr. B, why are you assuming they will be “family-sized apartments?”

We have 4 similarly sized buildings on my block and each one has EIGHT units…

What’s the incentive for larger units?
