The Sunset Park high school build has come a long way since last year. The Daily News had a story about the school, which is scheduled to open in the fall, a few months ago: “The schools it houses will be divided into three themed programs: performing and visual arts; health and human services, and business and entrepreneurship. Unlike most new schools, Sunset Park High seems likely to have no problem filling its roughly 320 seats even in the first year. More than 400 students have already pre-registered.” The article said the community has been lobbying for a new school for decades.

  1. Let’s be open and honest about the Brooklyn Prospect Charter School. They are outsiders, following the tradition of usurping Sunset Park’s resources.

The school is NOT a sunset park initiative. It is not run/directed by anyone from sunset. This is an opportunistic intrusion by an outside group of adults.

My only hope is that they truly leave after two years. And a further concern is that they don’t find and occupy another sunset site if they do move out. land is limited and we have solid local educational initiatives that seem to be getting squeezed out (check out the backgrounds of the charter school board – try to figure where their clout comes from with bloomberg and DOE).

  2. The International Baccalaureate program is outstanding. Years ago the f#$&ing morons in the state DOE thought the IB program didn’t live up to the (amazingly low) state Regents standards. Glad to see someone saw the light.
