While we’d love to give ourselves a pat on the back for our predictive powers, it didn’t take a crystal ball (or any great knowledge of the development market) to know that this new residential building on the corner of Classon and Park Avenues wouldn’t be much to look at. (“What are the chances that this building will be even remotely attractive?” we asked back in July 2006. “Zero, we’d guess.”) Scarano’s “Gaza Chic” design on this one makes us long for a good old glass box with illegal mezzanines.
Development Watch: 159 Classon Avenue [Brownstoner] GMAP P*Shark DOB
This is NOT a hasidic neighborhood folks. No way. Its an anglo caribbean and quickly gentrifying nabe. Hasidim are found further east along Eastern Parkway and south of EPkwy. this is north
Anti-Semite at 2:00! Anti-Semite at 2:00!
Definately housing for hasidim. European jews living in subsidized housing with tax-breaks giving to jewish developers by former mayor ed koch, after striking deals with rag-to-riches spanish politicians to run their own constituents out of that part of town.
1:38: “…the people who will be living in this building do not care what it looks like. Even if they did, they wouldn’t share your aesthethic sensibilites. They’re also probably the fastest growing group in Brooklyn.”
So you’re saying they breed like rats and uglify neighborhoods?
AWESOME!
LOL, all you haters are clueless. I guess the posters at Brownstoner think that nobody lives in Brooklyn outside of yuppies and hipsters from Ohio.
This building has a fantastic location for its target market (which most certainly isn’t anyone posting on Brownstoner). The location is very prime for its future residents.
And regarding design: the people who will be living in this building do not care what it looks like. Even if they did, they wouldn’t share your aesthethic sensibilites. They’re also probably the fastest growing group in Brooklyn.
I am surprised. I thought the Hasidim were constructing this building. Are they rentals or what?
Judging by those offset terraces, I’m guessing these are not built for Pratt sutdents or hipsters. If you compare this building to some of the other buildings being sold as cheap condos to the hassidim, it actually looks pretty good.
not to mention it’s in the armpit of Clinton hill / bed Stuy and w’burg.
what a piece of crap in a crap location.
Those Damn ornate terraces staggered down the building make me want to puke everytime I see it done, to say nothing of the false ‘classicism’. This shit is just nasty. YUCK!
