Queens Crap received a notification about a Stop Work Order from the Health Department on Corona Avenue between 90th Street and 91st Place. The Union Street African Methodist Episcopal Church previously owned this property, and construction uncovered more than 15 exposed graves thought to be those of slaves and their descendants. Right now, the work on the development, which includes condos and commercial space, is separated from the uncovered graves by a thin strip of parking lot. Construction will be halted until tomorrow to allow the Saint Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church of Jackson Heights to investigate — it’s suspected that more graves are beneath the property.
