Last week a reader sent in these two photos (the top one is 46 Nevins which at one point was slated to be a Hyatt Place Hotel and the bottom photo is 37 Nevins) along with this note: “For the longest time, these two construction sites on the corner of Schermerhorn and Nevins Street [Ed: top photo is 46 Nevins and bottom photo is 37 Nevins] were left abandoned. The protective plywood walls were deteriorating and the sidewalk on the Northeast corner was taken away from pedestrians because it was incorporated into the construction site. Well finally, someone has come along and cleaned up these two eyesores. I presume it was the Department of Buildings because neither site has any posted ownership contact information nor are any permits posted anymore. It’s nice to have the sidewalks back and feel safe as you walk by these two sites, but it’s sad to see the locations blighted indefinitely. Anyone have any idea what happened to the two projects that had started at each location? The current situation really brings down the neighborhood.”
