A new hotel is quickly rising alongside the Williamsburg Bridge.

Reaching 12 stories and having recently topped out at 361 Bedford Avenue, construction crews were busy during a recent visit, mostly working on the ground floor.

Building permits show the hotel will have 216 rooms, a gym in the cellar, off-street parking which will accommodate 27 cars, a restaurant on the ground floor and another eating and drinking establishment, with an outdoor terrace, on the 11th floor.

It will be run by Marriott and be the first outpost of their younger-demographic targeted Moxy brand of hotels in Brooklyn, according to a story in the Real Deal (four Moxy’s already exist in Manhattan). The developer, Lightstone, purchased the site — a combination of four separate lots — in 2019 for $28,994,500, according to property records.

Manhattan-based firm Stonehill Taylor is the applicant of record. They worked on a number of hotel projects in New York, including the other three Moxy brand hotels in Manhattan, the Hilton at 140 Schermerhorn Street in Boerum Hill and the Hampton Inn in Downtown Brooklyn.

The Moxy is part of a larger hotel boom in Williamsburg, which has seen Heritage Equity Partners’ Williamsburg Hotel, the Pod Hotel, the William Vale, the Wythe Hotel and Hotel Indigo rise in recent years.

Its arrival comes at a time when the hospitality industry has taken a hit due to the pandemic, with people traveling much less than before, and one of the neighborhood’s flagship tenants is packing up and moving to the Navy Yard.
