Former Post Office on Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill to Become Trio of Residential Buildings
Three buildings will replace the former post office, including an 11-story apartment building and two one-family residences, according to building permits.
What was once a post office in Boerum Hill is soon to make way for a residential building.
Actually, three on their way, according to building permits. The largest will be an 11-story mixed-use building with 42 units, which will have an address of 533 Pacific Street. The other two, with addresses at 535 and 537 Pacific, will be separate five-story single-family residences.
Demolition permits have yet to be filed. The news was first reported by New York YIMBY.
Building permits show an exercise room and sauna are planned for the cellar of the five-story residences, along with nine parking spaces to be shared among the three buildings. In the 11-story building, there will be two recreation areas in the cellar, retail, a community facility and another recreation area on the ground level, and more recreation area on the roof.
Formerly known as the Times Plaza Post Office, it closed in January 2017. There were once rumors that the building owner was planning a seven-story hotel in its place, which never came to fruition.
Ramy Issac of Issac & Stern is the architect of record. The owner is Sterling Town Equities, who purchased the building in June 2018 for $27.5 million.
