A few months ago the Brooklyn Paper reported that local pols arere working to transform the lot at Kent Avenue between Willoughby and Myrtle, a water shaft site, into a park. District Leader Lincoln Restler tells us that community groups and politicians are making progress with the space, and they’ve scheduled a block party there for this Saturday, September 24th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The block party will be an opportunity to discuss development possibilities and brainstorm about possible responsible developers for the lot. Restler says half of the lot will officially be turned over to the city from the Department of Environmental Protection this fall, with the other half hopefully coming through within the next couple years. The ideas tossed around so far for the land, which extends almost the length of a full block, include affordable housing, a park and green space.
