This photo is the best one we’ve seen of the progress at the Barclays Center, the future home of The Nets and the first piece of the Atlantic Yards project. And it should: It was sent out by someone in-house to potential buyers of basketball tickets yesterday!

  1. babs, my taxes have not in fact gone up. I’d rather see this built and the money diverted from beauracratic waste that this city is so famous for. This is an improvement to the City. Giving the transit workers a raise was not.

  2. A basketball arena to be patronized only by the wealthy ($75/ticket is NOT in most peoples’ budget) and acres of parking lots is progress for which of these 8.5 million NYC residents exactly 11217? I know I’m not in there. And some of the displaced residents can’t go out and “do what the rest of us do,” maybe because they are sick, or elderly, or how about just plain poor? Affordable housing is in crisis in this city, thanks to Emperor Bloomberg’s plan to rid the city of poor people, by pushing them progressively farther and farther out.

And thanks for continuing to try bxgrl – all I can think is we must be masochists to keep at this, but I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t. Nice to see some good people out there too :).

So babs, we should prevent progress for the 8.5 million people of NYC because a few people have had the privilege of paying $400 for a 1 bedroom apartment for the past few decades?

I’m sorry, I’m just not following. Maybe those people (since they have 3 years) can go do what the rest of us do, and go find other housing on their own.

I just mailed your republican card. Welcome.

  4. “There is a whole lot more to why people are opposed to AY but I don’t think it would get a fair hearing here”

Bxgrl, After reading this blog for a number of years, it would seem that many brownstoner readers oppose pretty much everything and anything. If it involves doing ANYTHING except keeping things exactly and precisely how they are, then there is a contingency here who are opposed.

I have never encountered a group of more judgmental people…and I sometimes read the comments on huffingtonpost just for kicks so that says a lot.
