A tipster sent in this fresh photo of 668 6th Avenue, the latest in a not-so-proud tradition of small new developments in the South Slope and Greenwood Heights. It looks like they scaled back the height some since a reader last pointed out that the rendering for the 50-foot building broke the zoning law that caps new developments of this size at 40 feet. This will be a four-unit building.

I would also not be going too far out on a limb that the two frame multi-families on either side will be standing longer than this new eyesore. They were complete gut rehabs done by FAC in 2006 (I believe) for affordable housing.
Interesting that they will be sandwiching un-affordable housing (I suspect).
Right on Denton 🙂
I believe GWG may mean 315 23rd St, though that was reno’d in 2005. Right up the street from our friends. Or perhaps the one at 308A 23rd St, I believe, but that was just a new facade and roof. But they did use really cool cement-style clapperboard. No painting for 25 yrs!
Denton, I happen to like the exterior of your house!
snappy, if they saw my place,. more like a thousand… lol.
But I live on the inside, not the outside, which is the point I was making.
“but I’ve biked far over Brooklyn haven’t found a ton of interesting, smart designs on a smaller scale.”
That’s your opinion. Opinions…assholes…etc. Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’m willing to bet if each and every one of us here put up a pic of where we currently live, it’d be easy to find at least 100 people to tell us it looks like shit. So, before you go pointing fingers, just remember that you, too, may be living in a shit-box…in someone else’s opinion!
🙂
greenwoodgeneral,
We are more than happy to cover tasteful and interesting construction in the hood and don’t think all new is necessarily bad. Many of the large scale new developments I personally don’t have a problem with, but I’ve biked far over Brooklyn haven’t found a ton of interesting, smart designs on a smaller scale. I can’t be sure why that is, really. And also while there are many tasteful renos with houses, some are too small for us to cover, some we don’t notice unless a tipster sends it in. Where exactly is the woodframe reno you were talking about? I would love to check it out …
I meant “bad is bad” though beads could be a more interesting exterior finish than those bricks!
And I will add, if you did pick up this fugly building and drop it ANYWHERE in Brooklyn (other than the “new Billyburgh” Thanks Mr. Fisher and Scarano) this would look like crap, non-contextual and poorly designed (again, my pov).
And those iridescent bricks!?!
“How about more posts on some of the nicer and more interesting renos and developments in the hood? There really are a few, really. For instance, there’s a really cool woodframe modern reno that happened around the block from there closer to the cemetary. Some people in the hood are doing nice things to their traditional wood frame houses. The old catholic school condo building on 21st… ”
GWG, that’s kinda the point. The only interesting developments or rehabs are ONLY being done to existing structures in the area (in my pov) besides the black brick “green” condo on 21st St that are all at least 80+ years old, if not from the 1800’s.
This just further shitties up a very mixed block. Event if they removed the vinyl from the two FAC projects on either side and put up similar brick, it would still look like ass.
Bad design, is bead design in my book.
