Rite Aid’s take over of Eckerd apparently made the chain’s owners decide that two RIte Aids within a block of each other were maybe a bit redundant, so the former Eckerd space at 9th Street and 5th Avenue is now up for grabs. (The Rite Aid at 10th Street and 5th Avenue is still going strong, though.) The 11,000-square-foot space (big!) will be leased for a 15-year term, according to broker Joel Karasik of NYC Realty, who says there’s been a far amount of interest from “national firms.” Karasik wouldn’t tell us anything else about what sort of user might take the space except that “it definitely won’t be a drug store.” What would you like to see here? 1. I think this place should be the first Brownstoner Pub with theme nights dedicated for all the people here to get together in person and bash each other over nightly themes i.e. neighborhood vs. neighborhood, coop vs. condo, modern vs. old, etc.

Passions run very high here and could be very entertaining to watch in person while enjoying a diverse selection of drinks. Maybe a mud pit or a boxing ring in the middle and Mr. B could be the ref.

  2. I think DaSilva’s should open up another overpriced, bullet-proof glass, cash only wine and liquor store there. I just hope there are enough strange, surly people to hire for the expansion.

  3. 1) Bring back the Burger King.

    2) I would like to see a Bugaboo/McClaren/Urban Mountain Buggy Showroom. Sales Service Test Drives all under one roof. Maybe even custom detailing.

    4) Subdivide the place into 22 500square foot mini stores. A small business incubator mall where creative people can escape the overpriced rents found in the center slope along 7 Avenue. I have been looking for a inexpensive place to sell my handmade acrylic “God’s Eyes”.
