In a city-wide ice cream sandwich round-up, New York Magazine names this Cobble Hill cookie shop’s version: “The tiniest, and the best of the bunch. One Girl spackles its cakey pumpkin or chocolate ‘whoopie’ cookies with no less than Il Laboratorio del Gelato ricotta gelato.” [NY Mag; photo by Donald Bowers]

Jack the Horse Tavern
“A starter of sweetbreads ($8) — fried crisp and richly tender inside — is dressed with a hint of toasty cumin, complementing the offal’s earthy undertones with a note of unexpected fragrance. And the marine impact of a Japanese-style seaweed salad gives a fresh twist to simple breaded oysters ($9).” [NY Sun]

Red Hook Ball Fields
“The crowd here, at the southeast corner of Clinton and Bay Streets, is primarily Latino, Caribbean and local. But the quality of food — there is no better street-food scene in all of New York — draws eaters from all over the borough and the city.” [NY Times]

After the jump: Totonno’s, Five Front, Palo Santo, and the best of Bay Ridge

Totonno’s
“They look delicious with their paper thin New York crust and bubbling slabs of fresh mozzarella. But to our tongues, the taste falls short of what we’ve come to expect from quality NYC pies. The Cheese is bland and could definitely use an herby accessory (we’ll bring our own basil next time) and the Pepperoni tastes as if excavated from a salt mine. Plus, both pizzas are burnt.” [Clean Plate Club]

Five Front Restaurant and Bar
“Five Front has a really relaxing outdoor patio space which is exactly what we were looking for. I ordered an eggs benedict with salmon instead of Canadian Bacon which I guess technically it’s called a Oeuffs Norvegienne but I’m not French or anything so whatever. Sing ordered a plate of mixed berry waffles which comes with some nicely glazed slices of banana.” [Plate of the Day]

Palo Santo Opens (scroll down for story)
“Stone, wood and iron are crafted by artisans to decorate this new spot, where the chef and owner Jacques Gautier interprets Latino cooking. It is open for breakfast and lunch only; dinner and a South American wine list will be added in a few weeks: 652 Union Street (Fourth Avenue), Park Slope, Brooklyn, (718) 636-6311.” [NY Times]

Bay Ridge: It’s Not Just Pizza
The Times also offers brief reviews of Agnati (a Greek spot), Banana Leaf Malaysian Bistro, Cebu Bar and Bistro, Tanoreen (Middle Eastern fare), and Tommaso’s (serving Italian food).
