  1. I’m totally going to the Pretty in Pink prom–though I have to find my date the perfect bolo tie first! Its gotta beat my late 90s prom–our theme song was “My Heart Will Go On” for chrissakes.

I, too, always questioned that thing that was fashioned into a prom dress. Scary!

However, I will forever claim that Pretty in Pink has the best movie soundtrack, hands down. THREE New Orders songs in the movie at pivotal moments (though only two appear on the soundtrack)!

  2. Sadie Hawkins was a fictional character in Al Capp’s L’il Abner cartoon series. She was supposedly so unattractive that her father instituted a dance where girls asked the boys for dances, so she could snag a man. The cartoon strip is from the 30’s or 40’s, and it’s kinda amazing that the whole idea caught on, nationally, instituting Sadie Hawkins dances all over.

In my high school, boys lived in fear that some adult would insist on having a SH dance, so did girls, come to think of it, but for different reasons. As socially devastating as it was to not get asked to a dance, it would be even worse to be the asker, and get rejected. High School could be hell. It’s amazing anyone other than jocks and cheerleaders survived it.

  3. i never went to my high school prom, tho ironically i sold tickets, :-/ i wanna go to this prom thingie party, but most likely i wont. grrrr it says it’s on 7th street. 7th street where?

  4. Remember watching the big reveal of the prom dress and thinking how the vintage one her friend gave her that she cut up was so much better? It’s set up to be so fabulous with shots of her sketching and sewing her little heart out, but then the dress is astoundingly hideous. I remember reading it really was based on Molly’s own design.
