“It’s Not A Done Deal” Benefit
On Sunday, June 24, Develop Don’t Destroy Brooklyn hosts the “It’s Not A Done Deal” Benefit, including a tour of one of Brooklyn’s most famous restored Victorian Brownstones. Free inscribed copies of the new book Creating the Artful Home will be available, and its author, Karen Zukowski, will be on hand. Also, eminent domain lead attorney Matthew Brinckerhoff will hold a Q&A session. Tickets are $60 in advance and $75 the day of the event. Brooklyn Blogade Roadshow
After the success of May’s Brooklyn Blogfest, the Brooklyn Blogade is taking it on the road to different neighborhoods, beginning this Sunday, June 24, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Vox Pop, 1022 Cortelyou Road. Smith Street Fun Day
This Sunday, June 24, South Brooklyn Local Development Corporation presents its annual Smith Street Fun Day Sunday, a street fair on Smith Street between Bergen and Union Streets. It begins at 11 a.m.
Blessing of the Fleet
On Sunday, June 24, Miramar Yacht Club in Sheepshead Bay is hosting the 16th annual Blessing of the Fleet. Its boats are joined by others from Sheepshead Bay YC, Varuna YC, Rockaway Point YC, Excelsior YC and Deep Creek YC. Interested viewers can watch the boat parade, which starts at noon, from the promenade on either the Sheepshead Bay or Manhattan Beach sides of the Bay.
Hot Summer Nights
Kingsborough Community College continues its outdoor concert series, which takes place every weekend in July. This Friday’s Global Rhythms features contemporary world music performed by local NY artists. These free concerts are held, rain or shine, in the bandshell on the KCC campus, located at 2001 Oriental Boulevard in Manhattan Beach. Lawn chairs and blankets are suggested. Caribbean Beats starts at 5:00 p.m. with Mozayik, followed by Jeff Newell’s New-Trad Octet at 7:00 p.m. and José Conde y Ola Fresca at 8:30 p.m.
Wiimbledon
On Saturday, June 23, Barcade is hosting “Wiimbledon,” a one-day event organized by Brooklyn residents Steve Bryant and Lane Buschel. Combining the famous tennis tournament and Wii Tennis, it begins at 11 a.m. and lasts until 5 p.m. Barcade is located on 388 Union Avenue.
