Taste of Brooklyn Weekend
Beginning tomorrow, August 26th through Sunday, August 28th, join Brooklyn Children’s Museum as we celebrate the yummy diversity of Brooklyn during Taste of Brooklyn Weekend. Discover some urban culinary treasures while hanging out in the World Brooklyn gallery, attend culinary workshops, collect recipes and hear a special W.O.R.D. UP! reading by Don Paco Lopez Jr. Visit Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s website for more information. Due to popular demand we recommend arriving early to W.O.R.D. UP! as seating is on first-come, first-served basis.

2nd Annual Union-Nostrand Street Festival
This year we’re doing it again! The Second Annual ‘Union-Nostrand Street Festival’ will take place onSaturday, August 27th, 2011 at 12 NOON. Last year the Office of New York State Assemblyman Karim Camara in partnership with City of Hope Economic Development Corp. hosted a successful festival in the 43rd Assembly District . This year will be no different! The Union-Nostrand festival will also feature a fashion show, live musical performances, free food and rides for the children.

Brooklyn Flea + Smorgasburg
On Saturday, the Flea is held at 176 Lafayette Ave. (between Clermont + Vanderbilt Avenues) in Fort Greene. On Sunday, the Flea will be at 27 North 6th Street (between Kent Avenue + East River). And on Saturday we also hold Smorgasburg, at the same Williamsburg location. Come join us – and all our food, antique, vintage and art vendors – this weekend. Flea: 10am to 5pm, Smorg: 9am to 5pm. Always free.

103rd Annual Tribute to the Prision Ship Martyrs
In 1907, the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument was built in Fort Greene Park in honor of the men who lost their lives on Revolutionary War British Prison Ships, moored near the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The ceremony is this Saturday at 10am.

Burroughs: Objects from the Bunker
Photographs of William S. Burroughs’s Personal Belongings are now on display at Gnarly Vines, on Myrtle in Ft. Greene through October 1st. More information on the project and artist here.
