Join Ruth Edebohls on Mother’s Day weekend to celebrate some of the most colorful and influential women of the 19th and early 20th century who are buried here. Matilda Tone, wife of the Irish patriot, pioneering doctors Susan McKinney-Steward and Mary Jacobi, abolitionist Abigail Gibbons, and actresses Laura Keene and Kate Claxton rest here along with the more notorious Lola Montez and Elizabeth Tilton. We’ll also enjoy the visual delights of Green-Wood, its trees and ponds and its sculpture and buildings by the leading artists and architects of their time. Meet inside the cemetery gates at the Gothic Arches. Saturday, May 7, 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. $15. Green-Wood Cemetery.

Free Walking Tours Celebrating Legacy of Jane Jacobs
The Municipal Arts Society is offering free tours throughout New York City to commemorate the work of urban critic Jane Jacobs. Explore the bungalows of the Rockaways, bike along Newtown Creek, and consider the rezoning of Williamsburg. Learn the vibrant history of your own neighborhood or discover a part of New York you didn’t know existed. All walks are free, and open to the public. Saturday, May 7th. Free.

PS 11 Silent Auction
The PS 11 PTA’s fourth annual silent auction fundraiser will host a wine tasting sponsored by Gnarly Vines with appetizers provided by Mazie’s. There will be plenty of exciting items on the table, including a week in the Hamptons and piano lessons. You can check out a full list of donors at the website. Smack Mellon’s Kentucky Derby Party & Art Auction Benefit
The Kentucky Derby Party and Art Auction is a benefit for the prestigious non-profit art organization, Smack Mellon, whose space in Dumbo is the perfect setting to watch the race, drink mint juleps, enjoy southern cooking and take home an original piece of art from a group of New York’s most creative visual artists. Proceeds help Smack Mellon continue to produce cutting-edge exhibitions featuring emerging, mid-career and women artists; provide free studio space and a $5000 fellowship to six promising new artists per year; and inspire local youth through arts education and mentorship programs.
