This Sunday, September 16, celebrate literature and support literacy in Brooklyn. The second annual book festival highlights fiction and non-fiction alike, featuring a number of author readings and discussions. In addition to the nearly 100 booksellers that will be on hand, the festival will also have events for children, teens, and adults running throughout the day. Ft Greene/Clinton Hill Stoop Sales
Hit the cash machine before hitting the streets this weekend. On Saturday, 32 houses will take part in the 4th Annual Carlton Avenue Stoop Sale from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the blocks between Greene and Myrtle Avenues. (There will be additional houses along Lafayette, Dekalb and Willoughby also participating.) Then head a few blocks east to Clinton Avenue between Dekalb and Greene where the streets will be lined with food and knick-knacks.
Wine Tasting at Thirst
After shopping ’til you drop at the neighborhood stoop sales on Saturday, head on over to Thirst where they’ll be hosting a free wine tasting from 2 to 5 p.m. 187 Dekalb Avenue at Carlton. (718) 596-7643.
Americana Exhibit Reception
Today, September 14, The Stairwell presents the opening reception for its first ever exhibition, a collection of “skaintings”—sketched paintings—from Charlotta Janssen. Neighborhood Block Party: Kermit Place
Saturday, September 15, check out the block party on Kermit Place. Featuring a pancake breakfast and afternoon barbeque, games, music, and even square dancing, the block party is open to everyone who wants some fun. SoLA Sidewalk Soiree
Saturday, the Shops of Lewis Avenue’s Second Annual Sidewalk Soiree takes place, an event featuring music, food, fashion, art and healthy living. An annual showcase of local Bed-Stuy businesses, the Soiree also includes activities the whole family can enjoy. Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Lewis Avenue, between Decatur and Halsey.
“The Caribbean Experience” Reception
