North Brooklyn Story Project Benefit Concert

Which Way Coney Island?: A Symposium on Its Future
Moderated by NYU Journalism Professor Suketu Mehta, the symposium will feature the city’s proposed comprehensive plan for Coney Island, currently in public review, with a presentation by New York City Planning and responses by the Municipal Art Society and Thor Equities, LLC. Panelists include: Purnima Kapur, Brooklyn director of City Planning; Dan Jennings, Thor Equities; Melissa Baldock, Kress/RFR fellow for Historic Preservation and Public Policy, the Municipal Art Society; Charles Bendit, Taconic Investments; Alberto Vourvoulias-Bush, El Diario/La Prensa; Dick Zigun, Coney Island Circus Sideshow; and Ahsanullah “Bobby” Khan, Coney Island Avenue Project.

Williamsburg Walks 2009 Information Meeting
L Magazine and Neighbors Allied for Good Growth (NAG) are partnering this year to organize the 2009 Williamsburg Walks. They are hoping to make the event even more enjoyable for the residents, merchants, and visitors of North Brooklyn. The meeting is your chance to give your opinion and share your concerns.

Fort Greene Panel Discussion
Hosted by The Local’s Andy Newman, this discussion will focus on the topic of Fort Greene/Clinton Hill Past & Present. The panel features DK Holland, Nelson George, Carl Hancock Rux, and us. Expect lots of cool stories from the past as well as thoughtful reflections on the phenomenon of change. Space is limited so get there early.

Drinks on the Doc Presents Helvetica
Brooklyn Based’s new documentary film series features recession-proof drink specials and indie documentaries. This week’s film is Helvetica. David Carson, the art director who designed Ray Gun will be on hand for questions, and there will be $3 bottles of Fisherman’s Navigator Doppel Bock.

Tillie’s Mural Dedication
Last year, local artist Ellie Balk created a community mural on the side of Tillie’s coffee shop. Neighbors were invited to paint a small dot on the location where they live. Join others for a celebratory toast and dedication of the mural.

First Annual Indie Business Fair
Brooklyn Royalty and 3rd Ward Edu present the First Annual Indie Business Fair. You can rock out to great DJs, grab a drink, and check out the newest independent businesses. The fair will feature demonstrations in urban gardening and photography, a pop-up gallery show from Art-x Fotographie, an indie fashion pop up shop, free samples of fresh Korean Cuisine, and a chance to win items from Brooklyn Royalty’s Spring Collection.

Junior League of Brooklyn’s Happy Hour & Food Drive
The Junior League of Brooklyn is an organization of women committed to developing the potential of women and improving communities. Their Happy Hour & Food Drive is a fundraiser for C.H.I.P.S., a soup kitchen and pantry in Park Slope.
