Thanks, Arkady- i just did that. I hope he has the cojones to answer but someohow I doubt he will. I told him until he understand the Holocaust and honors everyone who was exterminated, he’ll never be able to honor the 6 million Jews who also died.
I hope a lot of people write him- I’m gratified to see how many Jewish people spoke out against him, including Holocaust survivor Abraham Foxman.
Speaking of which, Have you seen Valkyrie? I watched it last night and found it fascinating. I never knew there wee 15 attempts to kill Hitler.
bxgrl – you should send that Holocaust Museum quote to Hikind’s web site contact.
Speaking as someone who lost family in the Holocaust all I can say is Dov Hikind is an embarrassment to Jews everywhere. We talk so much about the need to tell the truth about Shoah- well, the truth is other groups were also targeted- gays, disabled, gypsies, catholics. What was done to Jews is a matter of scale and intensity- Hitler hated , on an unprecedented scale. No matter what he stated as his reasons- Hitler was insane. Other groups seemed to have offended his quest for the purity and perfection of the Aryan race. Catholics- I really don’t know what his reasoning (although it’s odd to say Hitler and reasoning in the same sentence) was. But in the end, all of these innocent people were dead.
This is from the US Holocaust Museum Site (Some place Hikind might try to visit and educate himself at one day):
“From its rise to power in 1933, the Nazi regime built a series of detention facilities to imprison and eliminate so-called “enemies of the state.” Most prisoners in the early concentration camps were German Communists, Socialists, Social Democrats, Roma (Gypsies), Jehovah’s Witnesses, homosexuals, and persons accused of “asocial” or socially deviant behavior. ”
Not until 1938 were there mass arrests of Jews and in 1941, came the Final Solution. The first extermination camp gassed both Jews and Gypsies- it was in Poland.

Hikind is an idiot- After we have spent years bemoaning how Hitler singled us out for the worst horrors of recent history, now Hikind wants to use the Holocaust to show how “special” we are? That’s BS!! Those markers belong in the memorial and frankly in every Holocaust Memorial. As for Hikind- interesting to note the first two letters of his last name are 2 he shares with Hitler.
Mr. B should bring back QOTD for that one, MM.
I got the quote wrong, it’s not I didn’t care, but “I said nothing”. End result the same, however.
When the gas cleared in the killing rooms of concentration camps, dead was dead, there was no discrimination in death. Now they want to nitpick over who should be memorialized? Dov Hikind and his ilk should be ashamed. There is plenty of room at any memorial to include the other people the Nazis exterminated. What is the value in celebrating the fact that the Nazis hated you more? When people start making categories of the worthiness of groups of people, we start on the slippery slope of making it possible to do it all over again, down the road. That old quote is so true: “First they came for the Jews, but I was not Jewish, so I didn’t care. Then they came……..”
Who’d’ve thought that death by prejudice has to come in different flavors?
wow – that is pretty nuts.
Check out the crap in the story about the Brooklyn Holocaust Memorial. Amazing!!!!
