Now Open: The Little Piggy (Market)
64 Lafayette Ave., Fort Greene; (718) 797-1011
“Start the day with fair-trade coffee paired with a homemade biscuit, brownie or pecan bar ($2-$6), and end it with Finchville Farms Country Ham (market price) from Kentucky, a selection of artisanal cheeses and locally grown produce, or black-eyed pea salad, green bean casserole and, yes, penny candy like Charleston Chews (though, they now cost more than a penny!). You can eat in (there are 12 seats) or take away, but it’s BYOB for now.” [NY Post]
Now Open: A.O.C. Bistro
259 5th Ave. at Garfield (in the old Mekong space), Park Slope
“Its not necessarily on the level of Tempo or Al Di La, but it serves very solid, very enjoyable French ‘comfort’ food in a relaxed, friendly setting at affordable prices. In my opinion, it is exactly what the neighborhood needs…nothing pretentious, and not another sushi place. Just delicious food. FYI — it is related to AOC on Bleeker street. Also, we noticed that quite a few of the patrons were French — so that’s got to stand for something.” [Chowhounder elecsheep9]
After the jump: A new bakery in Fort Greene, sidewalk dining at the old Carroll Gardens OTB and Brooklyn’s new restaurant row…
Coming Soon: Krumbs Bakery
154 Vanderbilt, just south of Myrtle, Fort Greene
A week or so ago, I noticed that Frosted Moon Emporium on Vanderbilt just south of Myrtle looked closed… However, a reader tipped me off to a new sign taped in the window. [See photo at right.] You guys! A bakery! It’s in Fort Greene, but it’s just one block from Clinton Hill.” [Clinton Hill Blog]
Al Fresco at the Old OTB
Eater reports that the folks developing a French bistro in the old OTB space on the corner of Court and DeGraw (on the Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill border) are petitioning for “an enclosed sidewalk cafe.” Their petition will be heard at a public hearing today.
A New Restaurant Row in Brooklyn Heights
According to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights is on its way to becoming Brooklyn’s next restaurant row. Local restaurants include Oven, the Blue Pig ice cream parlor, Uncommon Grounds, Busy Chef, Henry’s End, Noodle Pudding, and Le Petit Marché… but is this strip any match for Smith Street or 5th Avenue?
8:55 It could take them a while to get things going smoothly. My wife and I were really disappointed the first few times we ate at Graziellas but they’ve really come around.
i tried il torchio last night. i was really excited about it when i walked in. menu looked great. but the food did not live up to the descriptions. in fairness, we only had a couple of tapas and a salad (did not try entrees or pastas). i’ll try it again, but…
Dont forget restaurant row on Dekalb from Vanderbilt to Carlton and on Fulton St from Greene Ave to Lafayette Ave. Have to venture over to Henry St and check it out. Soon Myrtle Avenue will be restauran row also. I luv it. Bon appetit all!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone been to Il Torchio on Myrtle? The space looks good, but I haven’t had the food yet.
