What could make for a more Brooklyn winter than hanging a homemade glass ornament on this year’s Christmas tree?
Fort Greene’s UrbanGlass — which Brownstoner profiled earlier this year — is opening its private 17,000-square-foot facility to the public for a day this holiday. The UrbanGlass Open Studios will offer a free opportunity to learn about the reuse and transformation of glass, tour the makers’ studios and even create glass through a series of hands-on activities.
There will be lessons on glass blowing, where artists will work one on one with attendees to create glass ornaments, kilnforming, where participants can create a glass sun catcher by assembling and fusing melted glass, and bead stringing, where handmade glass beads will be given to participants to string together.
While the bead-stringing activity and studio admission are free, the glassblowing and kilnforming cost $65 and $20, respectively, with tickets available online.
The Open Studios event will happen from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, at 647 Fulton Street.
