Ishtar- probably for the ultra-orthodox it would be a problem anyway. For me, not so much. I’ve been in many churches, to many masses, etc. Most traditional churches would be careful in a situation like this- especially with voting, but I have had a lot of experiences (mostly offensive)with messianic groups and they never stop proselytizing- they talk a good show but they use every opportunity to get their message out. The fact that the Board knew this and still went ahead is troubling.I also question whether any religious facility should be hosting voting, in any case.
Would this be an issue if it were in a regular church or is it because this center has a goal of converting Jews?
I’m not understanding this hookah ban. Has Gentile ever been in a hookah bar?
Perhaps not but I did feel a sense of guilt that could not be removed by three quick “Hail Marys.”
It seems it would have forced Orthodox Jews in the neighborhood to vote in their facility- and their purpose is to convert Jews to Christianity. I would find it offensive too. And the Board was told not to use the facility but went ahead and set it up anyway. Stupid, very stupid.
Because in a Jewish center they don’t proselytize.
When I lived on East 54th Street, I had to vote in a Jewish center and never complained.
Maybe Montrose Morris can do a Walkabout piece on the different hues and shades of brownstone & limestone.
Thirdly, on Decateur Street there are three homes that look to be made of Philadelphia Marble.
natalie, I too wondered. Of course there are some brownstones that have been painted pink but I’ve seen some that are actual stone and have that ink hue. Anyone know??
Also, I never asked Susan Elkins what kind of stone her place is…sort of a greenish tinge to a light colored sandstone.
I think these two are painted…the one on the left certainly has been.
Is the one on the right technically a Pinkstone?
