Benson… but I have car. And I think I’ve failed at my new ‘Stoner persona anyway. I might just have to go back to being a regular ol’ stoner.
pete, here’s one from the NYTimes.
at some point, you have to go by the old adage, where’s there’s smoke there’s fire.

LAS VEGAS — A prominent antipoverty organization that drew criticism from Republicans during last year’s presidential race was charged by Nevada officials Monday with engaging in voter registration fraud.
Two former leaders of the group’s Nevada branch were also charged in connection with the submission of thousands of bogus voter registration forms.
The organization, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or Acorn, is accused of paying canvassers only if they registered at least 20 voters per shift and providing bonuses of $5 for registering more than 21.
Under Nevada law, it is illegal to attach incentives to such work, in part because it encourages canvassers to submit fraudulent forms, Secretary of State Ross Miller said.
Acorn submitted 91,002 completed forms in Clark County, which includes Las Vegas, of which 23,186 turned out to be valid new voters who voted in November, according to data provided by Mr. Miller’s office.
Mr. Miller investigated Acorn at the behest of the Clark County registrar of voters, Larry Lomax, who noted a high number of forms turned in featuring the names of famous football players and cartoon characters
Tybur;
You are really not doing too well in your quest for a new ‘Stoner persona,I must say. With respect to cars, your sole objective should be to ban all of them from NYC. Please practice on this point.
Ditto — I just wrote NYPD Commissioner Kelly. Everything in the city gov’t is by numbers. The more “traffic control” type complaints they get, the higher it makes it in the priority list.
You should write him too. http://www.nyc.gov/html/mail/html/mailnypd.html
This is what I wrote:
While I think it is interesting to read in the NY Times about the NYPD’s “crackdown” on cellphone use while driving… I am concerned about your priorities.
Cellphone use or distracted driving in general may be a problem, but what I see on the streets of Brooklyn everyday is FAR MORE DANGEROUS.
What about driving 60mph in a 30mph zone? Dangerous Lane Changing? Turning right from the left lane? Running red light? Running stop signs? Driving and parking in bike lanes? Double-parking, in general?
THIS is the behavior that needs to be modified and made a priority. I’ve seen 2 cars pulled over in my 3 yrs in NYC. Why is that the case given the sheer quantity of traffic violations?!
your 1st example is exactly what I said —voter registration cards done improperly by people employed and not following rules – probably in attempt to make extra money or too lazy to do what supposed to do. Your 2nd is not an Acorn person…but perhaps someone who committed voter fraud and filled out a registration form that was handed in by Acorn registration person. So you’re making ACORN responsible that people that fill out these forms are telling truth. Again, spinning rightwing conspiracy theory.
Trying to make much ado about nothing, mountain out of a molehill.
“What about driving 60mph in a 30mph zone? Dangerous Lane Changing? ”
Too right. I have no love for cellphone-distracted drivers but really, traffic enforcement in NYC is invisible. Unless you happen to park in the wrong place of course.
benson,
true, no wonder I get so much candy on halloween. my looney tunes costume is a hit on that one day of the year.
😉
(OK – the honking isn’t ‘dangerous’ – just annoying as hell)
That effing wonderful that the police have ticketed 7,500 people for cellpone use. Freaking wonderful.
What about driving 60mph in a 30mph zone? Dangerous Lane Changing? Turning right from the left lane? Honking incessantly from position 5 at a light? Running red light? Running stop signs?
I’d like to see a “crackdown” on this dangerous driving. None of the above seem to require a cellphone and seem to be far more dangerous. Fucking police. Glad we have our priorities straight.
