“maybe her credit history is spotty or maybe she was evicted from her former residence, who knows?” Could be. Very true. How would a landlord know to take a chance? Now she has a good job, that’s a plus. She’s in security — maybe she had to pass a background check.
Dealing with bureaucrats, especially the ones in NYC is horrible. And the rent they are charging for a one room in a shelter? That’s outrageous. But very typical of NYC and NYS- any help they give you, you will pay through the nose for. Bloomberg is an expert at nickel and diming us. But its especially worse o do it to those who need to get back on their feet- how is charging this woman close to 60% of her income going to do that?
The rent that the shelter is trying to charge Mrs Gonzalez is ridiculous, of course. The article mentions she has had ‘protracted battles’ with the City in the past over conditions there.
Maybe the City is retaliating for that in setting her rent this high? Trying to force her out because they see her as a troublemaker for having complained?
“Good for Ms. Gonzalez. Glad to see this bureaucratic idiocy is getting attention. $1000 for a single room in a shelter –are they kidding? Indeed she could be renting a much larger apartment elsewhere.”
What are the factors Mopar? maybe her credit history is spotty or maybe she was evicted from her former residence, who knows? There is plenty of Covert discrimination going on because landlords feel great renting to Asshats and not hard working people. This one of the consequences of the Mutant Asset Bubble human psychology.

Good morning, What.
If Bloomberg is a ” ‘tard,” I’d hate to see what that makes you.
These rates that the City is charging people seem absolutely ridiculous. There’s a phrase for what happens when the beauraucrats get involved in laws that haven’t been enforced and are totally outdated by the time some idiot gets around to discovering them: SNAFU.
Re: Rates Rise at Fort Greene Family Shelter
Ms. Gonzalez is one of hundreds of working homeless families that are now being charged rent by the city to stay in shelters under a 1995 state law that was not enforced until last week. The rent, calculated according to income, size of the family and the cost of the shelter, is not supposed to exceed 50 percent of a homeless person’s income, but in Ms. Gonzalez’s case it does.
This is what happens when Retards overpay for rent in the Ghetto. Decent hard working people cannot find affordable places to live. Bloomberg is a ‘tard and I hope he is voted out this fall.
