I saw that apartment. It is lovely! I dream of the gardening I could do in that backyard.
it is not painted. In fact it was hidden under a couple of coats of paint. No one knew about it until the paint started to come off. It is carved stucco just like the examples in Europe. Interesting right?

They did a great job restoring the ornate facade above. It is a building on Columbia Heights. I just noticed it the other day. The second floor is even nicer.
You see this type of decorative work on facades in places like Prague, Munich, Vienna. It is very unusual for Brooklyn though.
