BoCoCa is what the term a two year old used to describe whats in his/her diaper.
I thought bococa was the choking sound you make upon realizing you’ve just swigged down a mouthful of milk gone sour
The Brooklyn Eagle has an 1875 ad for Brownstones on sale in Boerum Hill. The was at one time a “Cobble Hill Fort” located in present day Cobble Hill.
All the gays live on Columbia street. Capote would be proud as it is sort of “dockish”.
I find TriBeCa also very original.
those names resurrected or used with the creation of historic districts..then the other blocks around them started using them too. Besides ‘South Brooklyn’ – much of the area called Red Hook also.
“”Cobble Hill” has only really been in use since the 60s or so, and was created by real estate brokers”
Exactly right, cobble. Real estate brokers invented it as a marketing gimick.
I have no sense of neighborhood pride for Boerum Hill, and would not mind one name for the area.
I just don’t like the trend of taking 2 letters from different words and creating a neighborhood name from hit.
I think it worked for Soho, because it was somewhat original.
All of the ones created since then have just been lame.
CGar, my understanding is that the individual neighborhood names were used in the late 1800s, then got merged into “South Brooklyn.” They were resurrected in the 1960s and 1970s.
“I also refuse to use the term BoCoCa, except in cases where I describe how stupid it is or make fun of it.”
Smart man!
Be quiet over there, DIBS! : P
