  1. Thanks, Norman, for illustrating Louis’s point!!!

I’d love to read your latest work, but I simply don’t have the time to sift through yet another 10,000 word drone.

  2. Everyone on this blog is anonymous unless someone’s momma actually named them Cobblestoner or CHP or BX2B or Brownstoner, etc. Let’s critique the content and not the writer for a change.

  3. Oder does nitpick. Louis’s point about the length of Oder’s articles is spot on. I frequently read Oder’s blog and find his writing style tedious at best. His message gets lost in the overload of details. He can’t state his point succinctly and his tone is typical of the “holier than thou” approach used by AY opponents. Just as Dan Goldstein was a poor choice for a spokersperson, Oder is the wrong man to articulate the alleged flaws of Ratner’s project.

BTW, Louis’s analogy of the Swift Boat Veterans is a good one. At this point, NoLandGrab is little more than a link to the Atlantic Yards report.

  4. I really hope that WalMart does not come to NYC. I think it would bring ruin to a lot of the local small shops that give NY its unique environment. Of course, if WalMart wants to do something, they’re going to do it. The article makes a few great points, though, including the censorship and wages. If they have to come, I hope it’s under those terms.

  5. I think Erroll Louis sounds like a thin skinned op ed writer who has a chip on his shoulder. I’m on the fence about certain aspects of the AY project (definitely against the use or threat of eminent domain, concerned about traffic/subway capacity, as well as the scale and demapping of streets); however, if I was forced to decide, I would prefer that it be built rather than have the railyards lay fallow.

That said, Erroll’s editorials are often inaccurate and/or lacking in factual information. It’s the personal attacks that he makes on Oder and Erroll’s accusations of nitpicking that I find ridiculous. Erroll is a writer (and went to law school) so you’d think the manner in which something is written, the ability to analyze purported statements of fact, and attention to detail would be his strong suit. I guess not. He seems to think that delving into the details and analyzing a writer’s statements is nitpicking. I guess he is a “big picture” guy who does like delving into the details. We all know the type, heck, we have a President like that at the moment and look where that’s gotten us…
