Fridays at 11, the Upstater website brings you a selection of houses north of New York City. This week: homes with a Gothic touch.

88 Stormville Road, Hopewell Junction

Hopewell Junction is lousy with McMansions, but there are a few stand-out properties that remind you of upstate pre-housing boom. This is one of them.

88 Stormville Road in Hopewell Junction sits on five acres and is close to the Taconic: not much more than an hour from NYC, depending on traffic. It has three beds, 1.5 baths and 2,230 square feet. Taxes are estimated at less than $7,000, which is pretty good for upstate. Any thoughts on the hand-painted mural in the entryway?

200 Route 9H, Claverack

Claverack is a beautiful spot: a rural hamlet just outside of Hudson, and a short drive to Great Barrington. And although this is on what passes for a main drag in those parts, it’s a pretty beautiful property.

It passes the kitchen test, and there’s a pool, views, wraparound porch, eight beds, four fireplaces. We could go on. They’re asking $595,000 and the taxes are less than $10,000 a year.

196 Montgomery Street, Newburgh

Now just to torture you, this amazing Calvert Vaux Gothic Victorian, two blocks from the Hudson, was recently listed for $315,000. We were interested in it ourselves, but apparently it’s just off the market. Still, the pictures are worth ogling.
