The Planes, the Pain!

There is now 52% more low altitude plane traffic over Park Slope, according to the FHA. The Brooklyn Paper reports that this traffic is the result of new airspace design patterns implemented in 2007 that bring planes headed for LaGuardia through a corridor from Bay Ridge, over Park Slope to the Long Island Expressway. Helicopters are also directed over Park Slope and Prospect Park, as per information gathered through the Freedom of Information Act by an irate Park Slope resident, who is also a pilot. The new traffic patterns are meant to alleviate congestion at LGA, and other local airports. For some residents, according to the article, the noise is unbearable. What say you Park Slopers?

Airplane noise is hardly a problem.
Bus and trash truck noise are DEFINITLY much worse. I swear, the MTA needs to do regular routine checks on squeaky brakes on their buses…
Having lived in Howard Beach for many years, I understand what air traffic noise is all about. And that is in the 70’s and 80’s – pre noise abatement engines and during the SST years (ever feel your internal organs vibrate?). Last Sunday was visiting PS and noticed a line of jets heading north up Seventh Ave. From my vantage point at the corner of 1st St., the jets were nearly silent as they flew high overhead. What’s the “woop” – see what it is like in Flushing.
These are the same people that walk their dogs and don’t pick up after them and then have the balls to call people who complain about their “My dog’s poop is good for the side-walk” attitude, animal haters.
You want noisy, live near a military air field. When a military jet is just a little triangle way up in the sky, it is much noisier than commercial aircraft coming in for a landing. I lived in Norfolk, VA for a while which is some distance away from the airfield in Virginia Beach, but still was often surprised by the noise.
Lech – Thee & me – they didn’t have that course at SLC when I was there.
DH, I knew you’d get it!
….No one on the corner has swagga like us…
I fly like paper, get high like planes
If you catch me at the border I got visas in my name
If you come around here, I make ’em all day
I get one down in a second if you wait.
The pilots must not be following directions because planes fly over our house in Clinton Hill nonstop…
