how is it possible to get buildings built for specific groups of people? is that legal? can non hassidic people live in these buildings? I have read that these buildings are built for the specific needs of this religious group. They need outdoor space for a religious festival yes? But can these buildings really just be for a specific group of people? Does that happen anywhere else? Are they rentals or coops or condos? And how do they go about keeping others out? Wouldn’t that be discrimination?
They seem like sturdy, fireproof buildings with modern plumbing, wiring, elevators, and other minor amenities like that. I would rather live in one of these than in the ubiquitous walk-up twenty foot wide tenements (most with wooden stairs!)that are tinder boxes/fire traps.

It’s so depressing to see such ugly architecture being built in the city. The suburbs have McMansions, but we have McCondos.
