Since we last took at look at the Bedford Avenue building boom, several of the buildings have been completed. And it ain’t a pretty picture. Here are five examples between Wallabout Street and Myrtle Avenue.

  1. Yes, I’m definitely new to the Brownstoner message boards (I’m sorry about the multiple posts).

I figured that they were probably in the Hasidic section of Williamsburg, since they look very similar to the already constructed condo buildings. If there is a religious significance to the architecture, then I also apologize for my first comment.

I was also referring more to the condos going up quickly in my neighborhood (I live in Boerum Hill) and on Fourth Avenue. There just doesn’t seem to be good home architecture anymore.

  2. The reality is that the majority of ugly buildings are indeed hassidic housing – sure there is other ugliness such as a Karl Fischer or Scarano building, but at least those are somewhat designed, hassidic housing is simply utilitarian first, then affordable and maybe designed as a distant third… I live in south williamsburg and it breaks my heart to see what was torn down to make way for these things (Fischer and Scarano included).

  3. I’m not hating #1 or #5. At least with #1 they tried something interesting with the lighter-colored stone accents, though those weird ledges are distracting (are those balconies awaiting their safety railings?) #5 has a nice ground floor and the glass makes a nice dramatic statement, especially for a corner building. Numbers 2-4, blech.
