Red Hook Youth Fundraiser

Support the Red Hook community this Tuesday by sampling some of the surrounding neighborhoods’ best food and drink offerings.

Tickets are selling fast for the Red Hook Initiative’s annual fundraising event Taste of Red Hook.

Red Hook Initiative, a nonprofit, works with low-income youth at the Red Hook Houses, mentoring them from grade school to adulthood. The Red Hook Houses are the second-largest public housing complex in New York. With rates of unemployment at over 50 percent and a graduation rate under 50 percent, job-training programs can be momentously impactful for children who grow up there.

This year’s fundraiser will take place from 6-9 p.m. on September 29 at the pre–Civil War Liberty Warehouse at 260 Conover Street.

Food and drink will be supplied from more than 50 local establishments including Blue Marble, The Chocolate Room and IKEA.

The organization encourages those who can’t attend to make a direct donation or donate your ticket to a community member.
