The 5th Avenue retail gods sometimes taketh away, but they sure as hell giveth a whole lot. Coming soon: Video Free Brooklyn, the Smith Street video rental store, is opening in the former Romp storefront near Douglass. Sure, the big Hollywood further up 5th just closed down, but it seems like smaller rental stores with interesting stock (we’re thinking of Get Reel in particular) do decent business. Video Free Brooklyn II should open within a couple of weeks. Farther south down the avenue, meanwhile, another sequel is on the way: Pink Olive, the East Village baby/gift boutique, is coming to the former Posey Baker space near Lincoln. 5th Avenue’s newest addition will officially open its doors this Saturday. Yeah but back in the day at Sound Tracks on corner of 7th Ave and 9th St you could rent a movie AND buy a bag of weed. Can Video Free Brooklyn match THAT level of customer service? I think not.
I heard that Brad Pitt and Mario Batali’s secret love child is opening a masage/tea salon for stroller moms on Fifth Ave.
more people need to go to Celexico. Best mexican food ever.
There’s a new Mexican joint taking the place of Tempo Presto on 7th.
Also, Yogo Monster (organic frozen yogurt) is about to open on 7th between berkeley and union.
This is Batali’s belly … I’m coming to eat you up lil’ Slope. Prepare thyself.
seriously, 3:26?
i thought batali was looking on 7th ave.
i’ll miss posey barker.
bought some nice stuff there.
He’s taking over the Biscuit spot and turning it into Batali BBQ.
I also heard Buffalo Exchange…the vintage shop in Williamsburg is looking to expand to a second store on 5th ave.
Would make sense…Beacons Closet seems to do a pretty healthy business…you can barely MOVE in there.
