11217, this immediate area could use a good grocery and some more restaurants and cafes. Sure, there’s some stuff on 5th. But more retail space means lower retail rents means more variety of tenants and lower prices for the consumer. At least in theory. Plus, Gorilla has lines out the door!
Rob,
So in one breath you hate that people are sucking off the government’s teet and now you want free food?
I don’t know zinka. I was in direct negotiations with not one but two big 4th Ave developers and this is what I was told. As soon as I see a retail establishment open I will humbly and publicly admit I am wrong.
a free food bank on 4th avenue would be nice actually. that would fall within the community service sector! it’s mind boggling how little free food is available in park slope.

Denton;
Zinka is correct. Retail is certainly permitted on 4th Ave. The site on 4th and 6th, which has not even begun construction, is already advertising its retail space.
Denton doesn’t even have the term right. What he thinks he means is “community facility,” not “community service”. But he’s wrong, and I wish he’d stop saying this wrong thing over and over again.
denton, unfortunately, you are wrong on this and I have tried to correct you several times before. It’s simply NOT TRUE. The zoning is R8A with a C2-4 overlay. C2-4 permits retail. Look it up if you don’t believe me.
Rob, it is zoned for retail.
“I think this is the nicest looking building on 4th, by a mile”
100% agreed.
