Moutarde Out, Bistro In

We’ve been following a Chowhound thread about the Park Slope bistro Moutarde since early March, when the restaurant had “closed for renovations”or so said the hand-written sign in the window. Yesterday, we spotted this new signage, but we don’t have much info on the place. Chowhound famdoc is in the dark, too: “New owners? Don’t know. New name? Apparently. New Menu? I hope.” Anybody have the details on Le Bistro de la rue?
One restaurant, two Faux French names. I’m guessing same owner.
ah, the French. I try to say sacre bleu at least once a week when it’s called for.
When I’d see a fat woman acting stupid at a bar, that name came to my head.
Moutarde was an excellent “local” place, not great but good value for the price and good service (besides having the most charming French bartender, sigh). Especialy sitting outside in good weather.
I’m told that it will open with *lowered* prices and a simplified menu (bistro-style, whatever that means.) They did only cosmetic work interior and exterior.
The facade is beautiful. I like how I incorporated another french word into my post.
On the capitalization thing, YES, I believe the French take extreme liberties with the Roman alphabet. LULUc annoys me (but the food is good).
I giggled at Moutarde as well. Like a nickname for a mentally handicapped cow.
Ate at Moutarde only once a few years ago and it was good.
Without any other info, if I had to make a wild guess, I’d say it’s probably same owners/management but maybe just a refresh of the place and menu. Maybe they have decided to take focus away from mustard (moutarde.)
Johnny may be right- maybe it’s just extra descriptive signage for their sidewalk seating area.
🙁 i would giggle at the word “moutarde” every single time i passed it. le bistro de la rue isnt as funny.
*rob*
I used to like moutarde a lot but it went downhill a few years ago.
