Streetlevel: Crumbs Bakery on Montague
As Brooklyn Heights Blog noted on Friday, the tony nabe is getting a new bakery. A poster is now in the window for the Crumbs Bake Shop chain, which appears to specialize in the art of cupcakery. GMAP

Crummy. Crumbsy. Not good.
Kind of heavy compared to places like Magnolia, and unfortunately they’re not really a mini-chain bakery like Amy’s Bread or Sullivan Street. They not a pastry place like City Bakery.
Just cupcakes and muffins…and IMO, nothing special.
Guess it beats having another bank or realty on Montague…so its go that going for it.
Hey Snarky, a bit off topic. Went to Castello Plan yesterday….Great in all aspects. Didn’t eat anything there but place is awesome, service is great – attentive, not pushy. Great wine selection. Very nice by bottle list.
Expensive is not an issue; it’s just that every place is so “been there forever” there’s no excitement in checking out a new spot. but maybe with this new place…
Yeah, Joralemon and Columbia Place
I wouldn’t advise jester taking a date to Armando’s. I would advise getting a date to take her. It’s not cheap.
Comments on the BH Blog are hilarious
It’s a bakery, not a methadone clinic. Chill folks.
By foot you mean by the water, Ringo?
The more I think about it, the more the mini-chains like Crumbs and City Chemist are really about as good as we can hope for on Montague. Those rents are too high for the mom and pop places and the crowds — younger families, high school kids, cranks, office workers — too disparate for most restaurants.
Jester, I wouldn’t advise taking a date to Armando’s, but I have high hopes for the Italian place going it at the foot of Joralemon. I’ve spoken with the two owners on and off during their renovation. Seem oddly cool. Think they’re opening any moment now (or now?)
Minard, on your rec, I will try it. Thank you.
