Steiner Equities has made its second big rental building purchase of the year with a Crain’s report yesterday that the company which made its name in the movie studio business had purchased the 44-unit building at 142 North 6th Street in Williamsburg for $38 million. The development made headlines at the beginning of the year when its sponsors decided to take the building rental despite having signed contracts in place for more than half the condo units. (Here’s a slideshow we ran last fall shortly after Read Property Group had acquired the building for just $15 million from the original developer and changed the name from Urban Green.) As first reported on Brownstoner, Steiner also bought a 60-unit building at 204 Huntington Street in Carroll Gardens back in May for $24.5 million. Evidently now that 58 and 80 Met are basically sold out it’s time for new things!
