A loft on President Street has been transformed into a full-service salon with all the luxury trappings one might expect from such a business, like a lounge area with a flat-screen TV, manicure/pedicure stations, and an organic snack bar. What stands out about Felicity, though, is that it’s meant exclusively for teens and pre-teens. The salon’s owner, Gisselle Singleton, is the mother of a Berkeley Carroll student, and she saw a need for a business that would cater to her daughter and her daughter’s friends. Singleton notes that Felicity caters to the hair types of all ethnicities and places a premium on educating clients about grooming techniques. The salon is located in an industrial building that’s been renovated over the past year or so and now has several office tenants as well as a personal training studio. Diors I am really shocked! My sister who has been trying, for the last few days, to post a comment (her real purpose was to write a great review but then saw your comment and was on a mission to tell her experience to the readers) had a completely different experience!
My nieces who are 14 years old went to Felicity both of them got cuts, styles and manicures and they LOVED it! I often pick up my nieces from school and yesterday when I saw them after school they looked fabulous! I am sorry you had a bad experience but I will tell you that the salon is nice and the staff is very skilled! My nieces have no damage and they didnt spend all day in the salon either! From what my sister tells me they were at the salon for about 3 hours or so and for two girls getting their hair and nails done that is not bad at all!!!!
I came on the Brownstoner after my sister read the article on Felicity to write a RAVE review on the experience my twin 14 year olds had at Felicity and I was shocked when I read diors’ comment because my girls had GREAT stylists and truly enjoyed their experience at Felicity. My oldest got a layered trim and my youngest is a bit more daring and the DIVA of the family she got a layered bob (cutting off about 4 inches of her beautiful hair). While at Felicity they both figured out how to convince me into getting them manicures as well. The total time spent at the salon was about 3 1/2 hours and that included both of them getting shampoos, conditioners, cuts, style and their nails done, which in my opinion isnt bad timing at all! I am sorry to hear you had a bad experience BUT my girls loved their hair styles and we WILL be returning to Felicity!! P.S. They have a great little thing going on at Felicity if you bring in three of your friends for services your next service is 50% off!! Trust me we will be returning, I am very sorry Diors this is a great salon.
I thought I would treat my 12 year old daughter to a special haircut in a nice environment since she’s getting too old for Kids Kuts and Lulu’s, so we made an appt. at Felicity. Indeed the space is nicely designed, but what really matters is whether the services are good. Unfortunately, my daughter got a terrible haircut and was in the chair for over two hours. Of course it will grow (it will take at least three months to correct the damage) but my daughter was in tears anticipating how some of the other girls in her school would react to her appearance. I could kick myself for not researching it beyond this thread. The owner offered to have her see another stylist, but at this point I don’t think we can set foot in there again.
A salon that mastered both black-girl and white-girl hair and got us all to sit down and get Done together might just be the key to changing the world…(said the kinky-crowned white girl, and mother of another such gorgeous anomaly, who has spent her life feeling that she Belonged Nowhere in the racially charged World of Hair…)
this is my sister’s salon…it’s a great atmosphere for children and all their stylists are talented and licensed, unlike other salons. I recommend that any parent check out the spot.
It’s interesting to see all these comments too.
benson, sounds like the barber shop I used to go to growing up in philly, machete’s (after owner joe machete). he only did buzz cuts too and the joke obviously would be that it looked like he’d cut your hair with a machete when he was done.
very Italian as well– lotsa pictures of Frank Rizzo and the Pope.
place sadly is long gone….
im pretty sure boys can go there if they choose. the boys in park slope have girlier hair than most women anyway!
*rob*
Also, teen girls always almost always prefer to hang out where they can watch the boys and the boys can see them.
Good idea but PS really needs a place for tweens and teens of both genders, not just one. As somebody said above there are a lot of kids growing up there.
