New York Magazine’s got the scoop on the next culinary coup for the County of Kings: Cult brunch-master Kenny Shopsin is moving his eponymous restaurant to Carroll Gardens. After 24 years in the West Village, Shopsin’s is moving, as far as the magazine can figure, mostly for the cheaper rent. The restaurant’s devotees are sure to follow: “I went to the one on Bedford and Morton [and] I went to the one on Bedford and Carmine,” said Drew Barrymore. “I guess I’m headed to Brooklyn! If you’re really interested, pick up a copy of I Like Killing Flies, the 2004 documentary about the eatery and its proprietors and some its more colorful customers.

woah, woah. Shopsin’s is not celebrity refuse, and Kenny and family have certainly never catered to celebs. They’re assholes to everyone. But Kenny does cook some of the more interesting food around. And it was a tragedy when his wife died as they were opening the second location. This is real New York stuff.

Food quality doesn’t matter to em — just cool factor.

Celebrities like the place, and huge articles are written about him, because Kenny Shopsin is a fucking genius in the kitchen.
Are you kidding? We take this celebrity stuff extremely seriously. We’ll be dropping everything else to hide out paparazzi-style outside Shopsin’s on the off chance that Drew shows up. Can’t think of a better use of time!
