Why does the Ghetto need improving???? Stop it; there is a difference between not wanting long time residents and business to be forced out and accepting a lower standard of living as if it is a badge of honor. Why should we expect and accept garbage flying thru the air, swirling on the streets, landing in trees and the fronts of homes three blocks away? I don’t believe I deserve higher priced, lower quality food and products; expired goods on the shelfs and items covered in a thick coat of dust. I wouldn’t mind a few festive lights and pretty store fronts. It does make shopping more enjoyable. Why can’t we ever realize that we have to take care of what we have before someone else recognizes the value and takes it away from us? Then everyone starts screaming it’s mine give it back. Too late. The “ghetto” is only the “ghetto” when people stop caring.

Hey What,
Why is it you are so immune from any economic crisis.
Your house will hopefully the first to go belly up, how do you know you will never lose your job, or are you very wealthy and just slumming it here on Brownstoner. You don’t have the courage to do anything like walk down Fulton at 1:00am, you pine for glory days of the “ghetto”, you obviously hate white people. You are totally worthless, the fact that you haven’t been banned forever escapes me. You have nothing helpful or incisive to say and it doesn’t matter what the topic is about you always turn it to “white[sic] people will die out in 2009.
You are worthless, truly worthless.
“because the faith in you [sic] economic system is gone.”
Hate to tell you buddy, but it’s your system too.
What a joke.
girl on grand–nicely said. did you actually attend the meeting? What was said or decided?
Today was very nice. I see the primates are banging their chest calling “Victory” over The What but, there is one thing missing…
The Mutant Asset Bubble is still imploding! You are losing your jobs by the boatload! Mortgage Lending has dried up. Investment Banking is dead. Appreciation is Asset prices has crashed. Christmas buying season is a disaster. NY Times had to Mortgage their building to stave off the inevitable. The Chicago Tribune filed Bankruptcy yesterday and will have to sell some it’s prized assets (Chicago Cubs).
Let me show how really bad things are! People are accepting negative rates from US Treasuries because the faith in you economic system is gone.
Treasury Bills Trade at Negative Rates as Haven Demand Surges

Dec. 9 (Bloomberg) — Treasuries rose, pushing rates on the three-month bill negative for the first time, as investors gravitate toward the safety of U.S. government debt amid the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
The Treasury sold $27 billion of three-month bills yesterday at a discount rate of 0.005 percent, the lowest since it starting auctioning the securities in 1929. The U.S. also sold $30 billion of four-week bills today at zero percent for the first time since it began selling the debt in 2001.
You ever notice when someone is talking about the economy they always end the sentence with “since the Great Depression”……
Enjoy yourself, make merry and have fun! 2009 is here. I will call it “Year of The What”
The What
Someday this war is gonna end…
As I said yesterday, well said, bedstuy11216. I heartily agree.

“If when I go to the lavatory I don’t pee, if you’ll excuse the expression, into the bowl but on to the floor instead and if Zina and Darya Petrovna were to do the same thing, the lavatory would be ruined. Ruin, therefore, is not caused by lavatories but it’s something that starts in people’s heads.”

Thanks Everyone/ Mr. B;
Supergirl, It’s not blame, but everyone should have a sense of responsibility to themselves and their neighbor.
Pretty cynical to call the sentiment of that post ugly.
I don’t see why you can’t have your cake and eat it too on this one. Why can’t you care about both the asthetics and the endemic problems of the neighborhood?
Is that sort of like when Putin rears his head over alaska?
