The DOB renewed a few permits at 300 Schermerhorn Street, including a new building permit, for a 14-story, 247-unit hotel. DOB first approved plans here in 2008. According to public records, the ownership has not changed hands, but the phone number listed with the current owner – SM Hotel Management, controlled by the Mehta family – has since been disconnected. Gene Kaufmann is still listed as the architect. (Here’s a rendering from back in 2008 when this was planned to be a Holiday Inn.) If this indeed is happening, it would add to the growing number of hotels built or planned for Downtown Brooklyn, including 125 Flatbush Avenue, Hotel 718 which opened this spring and the Aloft Hotel.
