We checked out a new business called Palates at 251 Wilson Avenue in Bushwick thinking they were serving paletas, the Mexican fresh fruit popsicles. Well, no! Turns out it’s a cafe serving soup, sandwiches, salads and espresso drinks and pastries. There are big booths to sprawl out on and everyone is very friendly.
The cafe, which opened in December, got its name because all the interior furniture is hand made out of shipping pallets. It also refers to “palate,” as in sense of taste. Also, while there are no Mexican popsicles, there is ice cream — six flavors — and it is free. Seriously. We had a scoop of vanilla. GMAP
