Der Schwarze Kölner could have outdoor tables any day now. The popular newish beer hall at 710 Fulton Street in Fort Greene got the nod from Community Board 2 a couple of weeks ago. According to one of the barmaids we spoke to yesterday, the tables will be outside both sides of the restaurant. And they could be there by as soon as this weekend. Could be a nice place to stop off for a cold one after visiting opening day of the outdoor Flea at Bishop Loughlin tomorrow! GMAP
Something went wrong here with the design. Super-echo-y, strange layout and very uncomfortable seating. A trip to Bavaria with the architect would have helped.
zinka, totally agree. It’s intolerably loud. Conversation is almost impossible there.
they don’t even serve St. Pauli Girl.
Oh….right.
Is it me, or does the term “barmaid” sound a bit archaic?
(I am aware this is not necessarily an either/or question)
Can we call them serving wenches?
Maybe I’ll actually be able to patronize the place now — the inside is intolerably loud and echoey.
It’ll probably be quieter outside than it is inside. That is the freaking noisiest place I have been in for a while. Maybe they need more of those monks on foamcore or soccer bunting to quiet it down a little.
Okay, I thought we were doing sarcasm. Bah.
It’s his. You can look it up. There was an article in the NY Times a couple of years ago (I believe) about his battle against local folks who weren’t excited about a flea market in their neighborhood.
