“I was living on Eastern Parkway between Rochester and Buffalo.”
That does suck. Those people were jerks. Being a black man born and raised in NYC, attending a New England boarding school in high school, working in the media, interviewing CEOs as a reporter, having traveled to countries around the world, I’ve been just about every racial situation you can imagine. I’ve tried to follow Jack Johnson’s advice – go about your business act as if it doesn’t exist. It’s the only way.
Thanks Montrose. My friend and I felt at time that we were the only American born Blacks in the neighborhood. Enough time has certainly passed and I hope it’s very different now. We were on the north side of the street…across from us was a park filled with hookers at the time…not to mention the ‘escort service’ being run out of the apartment in the basement of the house! That was a doozy of a year!
BRG…I did get the emails…I’m trying to coordinate a couple of interviews so I don’t know yet what my availability is, but I do want to join you guys.
Snappy, I emailed you and the other ladies and you’re the only one I haven’t heard from. Let me know if you got the emails or not. Also if you’re not interested, let me know, I’ll take you off the emails so you don’t get inundated with us going back and forth about it.
Would love for you to join us.
Snappy, sorry to hear that. Depending on which side of the street you were on, you could have been either CHN, or CHS. Irrelevant, really. You were just around ignorant people, who unfortunately, will probably stay that way their entire lives. At that time, most of Crown Heights was still pretty isolated from people who were other than Orthodox or Caribbean. There weren’t even too many American born black folks over there. Fortunately, that has changed. I honestly don’t think you would find much of that attitude now, especially over on the Crown Heights North side, in the historic district. We have people from everywhere now.
okay, it’s 11:45. Where’s Jessi and 6yrs? Are they still on the date??
is there some sort of girls only even going on!??! can i borrow 11217’s long blonde wig and attend!?!

Snappy thanks….I’ll keep you on the emails and if you’re around when we finally go, would be great for you to join us.

It’s called a rum & Coke! I hate it when they give you Pepsi!
