“quality of life in nyc is very VERY bad for a lot of people who don’t make a lot of money.”
This is true.
You might like Carrboro, small town near Chapel Hill. Plenty of gay people, anarchists, etc., in the area, and good food and it’s inexpensive compared to NYC. But you can’t live outside New York unless you know how to drive.
Jackson Heights. It’s cheap and highly diverse, with a large gay population (mostly of color and also paired up). However, I felt very isolated both as a single person and because my social life was in Bushwick. You would need a roommate to get your rent down to $800 or so. The apartments are mostly teens, 20s, and 30s and very large. $1500 or $1600 is about what they charge for a two bedroom.
Bushwick. I think you would fit in best here. Tons of gay men, many with piercings. Those locals who are neither gay nor hipsters seem very tolerant to me. Largely hispanic. Lots of dogs too. Personally I prefer living in the residential area near Ridgewood rather than the lofts. That means Dekalb or Jefferson or Myrtle Wyckoff L train. One bedrooms are $1100 or $1200, shares are $600 to $800 each. See BushwickBK for more info. Any chance your roommate would move with you?
Dave’s life wouldn’t even be fit for cable! You’d have to go to one of those special shops in the Village and pick it up on DVD in the little room behind the curtain! Va va va voom!!!
Oh, if we do play ourselves we can do a show called “Rob and Snappy Quit Smoking: The Dangers of Denying Already Bitchy Gays and Lesbians Their Daily Fix of Nicotine.”

There could be a spin off series involving Dave’s life as well – but it would only air on Cinemax after 11pm at night 😉
Jennifer Hudson – give her some indie cred.
BTW – Kara if you’re reading this, Walter Foods better be the restaurant of the day today!!
