First, check with your HR Dept. and make sure that they’re taking the proper deductions out of your paycheck.
Second, have someone take a second look at your return. You could even do it online to make sure those figures are correct.
You can do a thing where you can wait for the Fed return and pay the state with that, but you’ll have to talk to an accountant. You should also be able to pay what you owe in at least two installments.
You should talk to your accounting people at work. How is it that they didn’t deduct enough for the State? Is there a chance that there is an error somewhere?
getting 500 back from fed about but owe the state around 800. i guess it could be worse but at the same time i was seriously counting on a nice chunk of change from the gubment 🙁 grrrr i think ill call help me howard.
I think you might be able to work it out Rob. You might be able to arrange to pay it in installements? Wait, I thought you were getting money back or is that from the Fed?
omfg im having a bloody meltdown right now. i owe 832.86 cents in state taxes! i have always gotten money back even with state. why is it so different this year? im not exactly sure WHERE the think this 800 bux is going to come from but it sure aint my wallet.
Oh, I didn’t think you were rant at me gemini. Not at all.
I heard a guy talking the other day and he was saying that all the assheads that he knew in the finance areas selling this crap knew exactly what they were doing and they all had THEIR money investing in govt. bonds. It made me really really angry. I’m still angry.
There I was working my ass off for these guys, putting up with their superior attitude crap, talking down to me like I was an moron, and all the while they were stealing my future.
CH – am sorry you have to go through this – am sure there are loads of people like yourself(my rant wasn’t targeted at folks like you) that may have been getting a good solid salary, but still had to pay their bills, debts, loans etc so they didn’t have gobs of money stashed away. And like you said you now have blown through your “emergency savings” and are having to dip into retirement money just to subsist!
sorry – I was envisioning the person who was making $350-500K a year, getting that 700-1mil bonus all the while knowing what they were doing would add to the meltdown “someday” and that someday came….
we do have a very sketch bookkeeper. hmm. thanks for the info/advice.
