Biff, some Philly thoughts:
For diners, there’s the Continental and the Continental Midtown – both are modern takes on a diner. Also Honey’s is supposed to do a great brunch. Silk City is also a diner, but it turns into a nightclub.
For a good, inexpensive dinner, I recommend Dmitris. The Queen Village location is my fave, but it’s too crowded. You can make a reservation for their Fitler Square location. http://www.yelp.com/biz/dmitris-philadelphia-2
As for activies, yeah, if the Phils are in town, you should definitely go – Citizens Park is a great place to watch a game. Unfortch – it seems they’ll be in NYC.
Make sure to get some water ice and pretzels. Delicious.
I got the New Yorker as my free gift while I was subscriber to NPR. They fired Juan Williams, my radio broke, I didn’t renew, and now I drink diet coke.
so – did you hook your inlaws up with nice bridge club group locally for their stay. I remember how they love playing with NYers.
I might be making some nice roadkill gooseliver pate today. want some?
I just learned the UEFA final is to be played this Saturday at 2 p.m. local time, Barcelona with Lionel Messi vs. Manchester United with Wayne Rooney. That is seriously awesome!
In a moment of great weakness last night I decided I really like the New Yorker. It was 3 am and I was winding down with a drink after getting home from work and it was sitting on the kitchen counter. My wife reads it. I mock it, with no good reason other than I like to mock things that other people do and the New Yorker has always seemed to be something that people read to be seen reading it rather than for the substance. I picked it up and read a short story. It was quite good.
