Legion, I was unaware of it to. The magazine ads and TV ads there are bonkers – everyone is color-faded to look as white as possible. Meanwhile, back in my home country, the white percentage of then population goes off each year to Spain, Greece and the tanning booth to get as brown as they can. Or red in many cases.
tonight seems like one of those perfect nights for lobbing water balloons off the roof.

Lamb, I lived there from 1985 to 1987, exactly 2 years to the day. It was the bubble period, but I traveled back and forth twice a year for 10 years after that and had a lot of Japanese clients. That kind of cross-cultural consulting business that your friend’s brother had has sort of fizzled out along with selling one’s services as a Japan specialist. And Japan really did a financial nosedive in the mid-late 90s and has never come out really. I know people who had a hard time disengaging themselves from their “Japan expertise” credential (having spent so much energy learning the language and the wierdness). It is ultimately is not worth too much from a financial perspective anymore. I think living in Japan for any length of time is not good for many Americans, because they are so ….how to put this……free floating and free from structure and social support, they can indulge their immaturity and wierdness and the Japanese just will dismiss them as “hen na gaijin” weirdo foreigners. It is a nice way to develop into a misfit.
human skin is not boring! i happen to think my shade is quite nice, if i may say so myself 🙂 think of me as a walking chocolate chip…er…well more of a chocolate chunk, but you get the picture 🙂

wow, I didn’t know things were like that in the Philippines.
I suppose anywhere you go around the world you will find that people react to differences in a similar manner.

I happened to pick up littlegirllegion and her friend at pre-school yesterday.
Her friend got in the car and as soon as I started to move
she let out an ear-piercing scream and shouting that she wanted to go home.

i wish people came in nicer colors than the colors they come in now. im sorry but human skin colors are the fugliest and totally boring. i wanna see pink and green and blue people, not what we have now. im surprised people have never dyed their skin completely one solid color, i would totally do it if it was possible. a nice shade of emerald green. of course i wish people would paint their hideously dull coloured brownstones as well, oh well maybe in 100 years people who embrace real colour

i figure volleyball is less dangerous as a plusa event than say dodgeball. with dodgeball, there will be some people who get really hurt (likely on purpose!) and there will be lawsuits! 😉
